HID FARGO: Transition to New Sustainable Packaging for Consumables

HID Global has announced an important update for the FARGO product line: the transition of consumables to new eco-friendly corrugated cardboard packaging, designed to reduce environmental impact, improve storage efficiency and facilitate shipping. In line with growing global sustainability goals, HID Global has shared a significant update regarding consumbales for FARGO plastic card printers. Starting this year, the company will begin a phased transition towards the use of new sustainable corrugated cardboard packaging

This initiative not only underscores HID Global's commitment to the environment but also offers pratical benefits for the supply chain and end users.

The Benefits of the new Sustainable packaging

The decision to switch to corrugated cardboard meets several key needs::

• Environmental Sustainability: The significant reduction of plastic, particularly the previous clamshell packaging, directly contributes to achieving eco-sustainability goals, an aspect increasingly demanded by the market.

• Storage Efficiency: The new design optimizes warehouse space, improving logistics organization.

• Simplified Shipping: The robustness of corrugated cardboard allows for single-unit shipping without the need for additional protective packaging, reducing waste and shipping costs.

No Changes to FARGO products

It is crucial to emphasize that this transition solely affects the packaging. There will be no changes to the FARGO consumables themselves.

As confirmed by HID Global, the following remain absolutely unchanged:

• Ribbon technical specifications.

• The high quality and performance of the consumables.

• The product part numbers.

Whether you use a HARGO HDP5000, FARGO HDP6600, or the new FARGO HDP5000e printer, the high-definition print quality for your badges and ID cards is guaranteed.

Transition Timeline

The packaging replacement will occur gradually, according to the following expected schedule:

1. DTC (Direct-to-Card) Ribbons: Starting June 2026.

2. HDP (High Definition Printing) Ribbons and Films: Starting in Q3 (Third Quarter) of 2026

3. Overlaminates: Starting in Q4 (Fourth Quarter) of 2026.

During this transition phase, please note that you may receive FARGO consumables in either the existing plastic clamshell packaging or the new corrugated cardboard packaging, depending on inventory availability.
